Toyota Expect 25,000 Lexus Hybrid US Sales
Toyota has announced that they estimate they will sell 25,000 new Lexus hybrid cars in the United State throughout their first year of sales.
Toyota plan to release their brand new luxury hybrid car, the Lexus HS250 Hybrid, this summer into the U.S. market. This new car is the first dedicated hybrid car to be part of Lexus, Toyota’s luxury car range. However, it’s not their first dedicated hybrid car. Toyota has huge success with the Prius, their first hybrid car which was released in 2000.
Although no current pricing details has been released, the new Lexus HS250 Hybrid is likely to be pricey. Maybe a lexus lease option would be a cheaper alternative.
Since the release of the Prius in 2000, Toyota have taken control of 75% of the hybrid car market in the U.S. selling around 1 million hybrid cars. In total, all of those sales have accounted for half of Toyota’s international sales.
The 3rd generation Prius went on sale in the U.S. eariler thing Spring which is expected to sell 180,000 units just in the first 12 months of sales. A considerably higher amount than what is expected of the new luxury Lexus hybrid.
However, they may have forcasted these sales, but whether they will acheive them is another matter. Although the amount of car sales in May rose since last month, the amount of car sales since the start of 2009 as dropped by 36% in the U.S. Even more bad news has struck Toyota, the amount of hybrid car sales has slumped recently. This is because although fuel prices rose last July, they have now dropped considerably in price over the last few months.
This price drop has meant that the amount of gasoline car sales has risen because a hybrid car is generally around $4000 more than a hybrid car.
That aside, Toyota still have high hopes their new luxury Hybrid car because they believe that the car market is improving and the requirement for hybrid cars is coming back. Toyota might be relying alot on the car lease market. With the current credit crunch, many new car buyers are choosing to lease a car instead of buying their own new one.
